Objectives:
1. First Meeting of the Coordination Committee
As the governing body of the CSM, the Coordination Committee is responsible for ensuring
that the functions of the CSM are carried out as effectively as possible and according to the
organising principles. To ensure that the CSM is fully operational and is effectively contributing to the work of the CFS in the 2011 work programme, an initial face-to-face meeting will take place
with all of the Coordination Committee members and the current 4 interim civil society
members of the Advisory Group. The purpose and objectives of the meeting are as follows:
a) Appoint 4 Advisory Group members by and among the CC members
b) Draft CSM 2011 work-plan and finalise terms of reference for CC
c) Set up a light Rome-based Secretariat
2. Policy Seminars
With the CFS moving forward from reform process to policy content analysis, it is
imperative that civil society are able to effectively engage in and contribute to the ongoing
discussions and open consultations being organised by the CFS. With the Civil Society
Mechanism as the sole mechanism pushing the participatory process forward, the first
meeting of the Coordination Committee will be the opportune time for mobilising and
strategising key policy messages, to a broad range of civil society actors, with emphasis on
social and people’s movements and organisations from the South. Specific objectives of the seminars are as follows:
a) Mobilise CSOs on main policy issues
b) Identify key priority demands
c) Increase shared understanding
d) Strategize until the CFS session
